STEAM Dual Credit Course Offerings

Dual Credit Information

New Opportunities for Fall 2017

Once again this fall we will offer a variety of dual credit courses at STEAM Academy to rising juniors and seniors who meet the eligibility requirements. Please review below information for the upcoming options for qualifying students.

This fall marks the first semester of a new partnership with Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) to increase the number of courses available both at STEAM and on the BCTC Campus. The Advisory Council at STEAM has voted to streamline our dual credit partnership, making BCTC our primary dual credit partner moving forward, which you will see reflected in the course offerings below.

Important Cost Information: The most notable change to implement this new partnership is a change in the financial model where STEAM will only continue to pay the tuition costs for students that qualify for free or reduced lunch. All textbooks and/or online book fees will still be the responsibility of each family. Families of students that do not qualify for free/reduced lunch will be asked to pay the tuition, fees, and books for any dual credit courses. For next year that is expected to be about $168 per course for tuition and a potential additional book cost. While this is a very real cost on our families, please keep in mind that this is still very cheap for a college course. It is 1/3 of the normal BCTC rate and about 1/8 the tuition at UK. Families will be billed directly by BCTC.

**Under the current Governor’s Dual Credit Scholarship Plan, all seniors are eligible to receive up to two FREE courses (one in the fall semester and one in the spring semester) during the 2017-18 academic year. Please note this plan is subject to change at any time.

Dual Credit at BCTC Qualifying Seniors Only

Also, for qualifying seniors only, we will be encouraging them to take additional courses at one of the BCTC campuses during the afternoons and/or evenings. The specific courses taken at any BCTC campus should correspond to student interests and be selected both in consultation with Mr. Ridd and with an assigned BCTC academic advisor. These afternoon courses can be combined with the existing Internship program to fill a student's afternoon schedule. Deadline for consultation is Friday, May 26.
